NIGERIAN EDUCATION GETTING IT RIGHT OR LEFT? (USING THE TERTIARY INSTITUTION AS CASE STUDY)

The main reason for which we all were sent to school is/was to acquire relevant knowledge, skills and attitudes that will enable us fit well in the society and make as much impact as possible. Isn’t it??

REASONS FOR WHICH WE ATTEND SCHOOLS

* ACQUISITION OF KNOWLEDGE: According to my definition above, the nitty-gritty for which we were sent to school is to get tutored, re-branded and furnished to enhance our society.

* BELLY INFRASTRUCTURE: Its paramount and sacrosanct to note that in the process of getting fine-tuned you acquire skills cum knowledge that will aid you create a job or get hired with payments as return.

* TRIMMING AND GROOMING OF ETIQUETTE: Amidst the above stated salient reasons, one more reason is to get polished and smeared with the right behaviors and attitudes to be better citizens.

* FOR HONOUR AND REPUTE SAKE: Others go to school to any extent to be recognized and accepted in the society. More so, to be respected and supported in case of pursuit of politics.

* AND others.

FOCAL POINT:
Due to the fact that our nation has digressed absolutely from “what it should be” to “what it is” it has immensely facilitated the production of the inappropriate and unprepared personnel for/in the labour market.

The point i intend making vividly here is, our Nation has now preferred “CERTIFICATE” to “KNOW-HOW” i guess you know what i mean. Students read to pass their exams rather than developing themselves. Hence, they imbibe the philosophy of “anyhow, anyhow lets make it” and its not helping our nation at all.

Generally speaking we students all #hype to make our great grades of As, Bs and Cs, Fs nko?? Get great certificate on graduation, what about the mental and psychological developments? Hmmuuu?? Apart from those who are dogged and smart enough to accrue their developments while in school, the others graduate with rich certificate and poor knowledge and it has handicapped the proliferation of our nation all round.

Additionally, the deviation of the demand of our nation prompted the adoption of a new policy by students. Since the nation requires just that certification, excluding the knowledge capacity, the students equally do the education to please the want of the nation and its not helping matters at all.

Furthermore, our Educational System is all embracing bent on creating versatility among the to-be-labour market products, and yet the main thing is swept under the carpet and ignored. So many borrowed courses or subjects has aided in diversification of learners or students attention in their field or course study.

RECOMMENDATION:
Our Educational Managers and Organizers should own-up to their responsibilities by scrutinizing, evaluating and checkmating our Educational System to find out the loop-holes that are intricate teaching/learning exercise in our nation.

To the curriculum implementer or prosecutors: they should aid the students/learners become better products of their various institutions of learning by exploiting the various domains namely: Cognitive, Effective and Psycho-motor in various comprehensive and all embracing proportion.

Finally, we the students its high-time we rose up, face our tormentor – our books and determine to subdue it at all explicable cost, its never easy for sure. May God help us students to allow the screw(school) to burrow into us, and we screw into the school.
